River: The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems. Mal: See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Addendum:

The New York City subway system, hit by unprecedented damage from the storm, will remain closed for “a good four or five days,” and schools will be closed again on Wednesday, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said Tuesday morning.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Has anyone heard from DX?

I just sent him a lj message; I'll let people know when I hear back. His area of the state was hit hard, so he may be without power.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Sigh. I really wish my parents would learn to freakin' text. (THEY ARE OKAY) They have no power or water, and the worst of it was right on their doorstep. Or rather, several feet up in their lobby. (THEY ARE OKAY) And if they would just FREAKIN' TEXT I wouldn't be worrying about using up all their remaining phone battery by calling to check on them.

Sigh. (Also, y'all know I'm just exasperated stress-venting, yes? There's a reason I don't say this to the rest of the Internet.)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel

That's the Brooklyn-Battery tunnel for anyone who isn't a city official in charge of renaming things.

I may offer to carpool my fellow Brooklynites to work tomorrow, if the bridges are deemed safe. (Right now they are open but still marked "yellow" in NY1's map, meaning they're open but still at risk for dangerous wind gusts.)

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

msbelle-- no, hadn't seen that one. Evidently it's very hard to get south from there, there are HOUSES (or parts of them) on Rt 35.

I'm reminding myself that my aunt's house was poised for extensive -- like completely gutting -- renovation, but hadn't broken ground because of permitting snafus. So a lot of the reno may eventually be paid for out of insurance. My aunt was fretting about the trees that had to be cut down, so that probably is not going to be an issue any more.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Wow, Theo -- that sounds like the best possible time for massive storm damage. Not that you ever want it.
