I've been watching the news - over 200,000 people without power in the DC area. I expect to be fine - power lines are underground, heat is from an oil-burning furnace, good sturdy walls, and my windows face into a courtyard so no trees to worry about. I do, however, keep losing my internet connection and the TV (I rely on broadcast) is iffy. But! I have books. With the number of books I haven't read yet, plus the ones I like to reread, I won't run out of reading material before the coming of the third millenium.
Also, in regard to something earlier - I think one of the reasons for taping windows is to keep some kind of control over the glass in case it breaks.
Pretty much everybody I know in NJ is reporting a ton of downed trees, most of them taking power lines with them. At least one fire from those power lines.
Wind backed off for a while here in MA, but it sounds like it's back. I'm not hearing a lot of street (car) noise outside of occasional sirens. I'm sure it's going to be a busy night for first responders.
I'm comforting myself with zombies, inbetween watching Jim Cantore wading in Battery Park in Manhattan.
Someone on my floor insists on having the windows at the end of the hallway open ... which means my door keeps rattling in the frame. Most annoying.
This is a shot straight out of Miyazaki's Ponyo: Kennebunkport, ME
Go nail them shut? ::evile grin::
I sure hope Jim Cantore is wearing waders.

They've been doing a lot of tree trimming here in CT, last year's storm was a nightmare. I suspect that it will help in this situation.
The tree we had trimmed last year just dropped a 9ft chunk - between the house and the sidewalk. I'm very proud of it for the telemark landing. Hopefully, the rest will stand.
