Tara: Do you have any books on robots? Giles: Oh, yes, dozens. There's a lot of research to be done in order to--no, I'm lying. Haven't got squat. I just like watching Xander squirm.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Go home, Tom!!

Now it's pouring out, and I wish I had ice cream and/or flour and sugar, to make cookies with. I mean, I guess I could do laundry, but that's not nearly as much fun.

Also, I know a guy who's been trying to get to NYC from Seattle since yesterday morning. He spent midnight to 4am in the ATL airport, and was last heard of on the ground in Pittsburgh, hoping to get a Greyhound bus to NYC. Good luck, man.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Also: taping a home's windows with masking or duct tape does nothing to protect them, and plywood doesn't help a whole lot either.

It always feel like that article over-states the frailty of plywood. Yes, the drama of a 2x4 through concrete won't be prevented, but 10,000 damn branches and unsecured lawn furniture that could kick up aren't going to break a window and give you a room full of glass, rain, and wind for heaven knows how long.

Just windy here in upper Manhattan. And the light is weirdly yellow.

Get home safe, Tom.

Glad your power is back, Amy.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Wow.

The eye looks kind of chaotic, which I guess you'd expect with a variety of storm systems hitting at the same time.

Are they forecasting more water than wind? Cuz that's what it looks like. Floodier and floodier.

Here at least, it's flooding out of the ocean, not from rain, that seems to be the concern. Edit: I mean, water-wise.

Because books.

In other news, the Random House/Penguin merger is going ahead, and like everyone else in publishing I'm really hoping the new name of the company is Random Penguin.

Big Six now = Big Five.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Are they forecasting more water than wind? Cuz that's what it looks like. Floodier and floodier.

The governor of Vermont (which I know is not in the immediate path of landfall, but it's in the storm path, and, well, I'm keeping an eye on Vermont for fraternal reasons) is saying that, for them, the high winds are the issue rather than flooding. I hope that's true.

I don't know about NJ/NY/DC/MD/all the areas that are going to be today's landfall -- from pictures I've been seeing already, flooding looks pretty dang serious.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Steph, they're expecting 30 ft waves in Lake Michigan. Craxy.

Also, I know a guy who's been trying to get to NYC from Seattle since yesterday morning. He spent midnight to 4am in the ATL airport, and was last heard of on the ground in Pittsburgh, hoping to get a Greyhound bus to NYC. Good luck, man.

What the hell is so urgent in NYC, and will he be able to do it when he gets there anyway? Seems like a few days in Atlanta (or just staying in Seattle) might have been a better plan.

Right now the NYT is saying Penguin Random House. I was rooting for House Penguin Random.
