If you lost one in ten out of a group of 100, you were decimated.

More specifically, it was a form of punishment. The unit being punished would be divided into groups of 10, and then one soldier of the 10 would be chosen by lot to be killed.

This may be why there hasn't been a "Management Secrets of Roman Generals" book.
