I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

is Mindy Kaling always annoying?

Disappointingly, I'm beginning to suspect so. I was all primed to be all supportive of increased diversity in TV comedy, but it turns out there are some places I don't value diversity--a variety of quality, for instance. I'm a snob that way.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The Cards/Nationals game is killing DH.

Me too! But I was rooting for the Nats.

Because books.

Davey Johnson manages the Nationals, too. I wanted them to win for him.

Brutal loss giving up a two run lead in the 9th. Welcome to heartbreak baseball.

Motte was bringing serious heat in the bottom of the 9th, blowing it in at 100 mph.

Now tagless for your comfort.

The next game should be pretty good.

I can't believe I know three different people who named their son Draven. I try not to judge.

Friends don't let friends dress like name their kids after The Raven.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

re: selling of house. Apparently someone lit a fire underneath my realtor.

buyer's realtor wanted $2K off price of the home and $1200 in escrow for radon abatement. We have an estimate for radon abatement for $795. So that's what I'm paying to the company, not $1,200. Buyer's realtor wanted an invoice for washer repair (btw, the water was turned off and this is why the washer did not turn on), and for the thermostat replacement (why the furnace did not turn on).

Here is what my realtor sent in part:

The handyman did not charge for the fixing of the washing machine because there was nothing to be fixed so there is no invoice. He advised the inspector to turn the water on to the washer for maximum results. You, your client or the inspector may go over and check for yourself at anytime. We advise that the water be turned on prior to the starting of the machine.

"turn the water on...for maximum results" - damn.

oh well.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

HA, le nubian, that's awesome. Will she or he write emails to the parents of my 9th graders who are noodgy in the extreme?

That is pure gold, le nubian.

Marathon Day! I can already hear the bands starting up at Lake Montebello (one of the features of the course!) Hope to catch the front runners on the way back from the market.

Our wings are not tired.

Apparently I am still not quite awake because my first thought was, gee, I didn't know sarameg was doing a marathon. More coffee now.
