Oh, that's classic bullshit -- "those who can't do, teach" and whatnot.
That, of course, I'm familiar with--but I've never heard it at a
grade
school level. That's a university and up thing, where the teacher is presumably hiding from being tested on their ability to write novels/code/psychoanalyse and instead tormenting the talented folk that are going on to actually
do
something useful with their lives.
It's cold here today, so I think this will be a good day to make a big pot of split pea soup.
Also, now I want grits.

Fair enough. I have heard the "teachers only need to be a grade level above their students" thing before. Also obvious bullshit, of course.
Trouser jeans notwithstanding, it was a pretty cool thing, with all sorts of folks in uniform, and former Secretary of State Schultz and Senator Feinstein used swords to cut a huge cake. Turns out it was the formal welcome of the city of SF to the Navy for Fleet Week. But my sister hadn't realized that, and the invitation really did say "business casual".
So I got to meet the sheriff of SF and a couple of city department heads, and the Navy Drill Team. These guys:

Man, I wanna use a sword to cut a huge cake.
I woke to find that my cold has moved into the hacking cough stage. I probably shouldn't go stand in the cold to watch the Steppenwolf vs Goodman flag football game, huh? Hrmph. And I bought a Goodman hat this week just so I could wear it with my Steppenwolf sweatshirt.
Ooh, the oven just beeped on my paleo banana bread (almond flour). I hope it turns out, cause it smells great!
Recently I've been making an effort to be more friendly with more co-workers. I wasn't
not
friendly before, but since I refuse to do anything outside of the office, I figured I should shore up the inside the office stuff.
So yesterday is Security Fulfillment doublechecking a staticky phoneline telling me "That sounded like we're calling Abydos! But now it's fixed--cool cool cool." And the tea guy is all fist bumping over how much we don't drink black teas, as he rhapsodises about oolongs and senchas and I nod like I have a clue, and the guy who
had
been evangelising black tea has now given me 32GB of British documentaries because I opened my mouth at the wrong time (this is cannibal snake-owner guy, who's revealed a distinct aesthetic appreciation for the SS uniform, but
ONLY
aesthetic, in his defense--he bemoans that I'm one of few people here who knows the difference between Hummel and Rommel).
So now I got myself sucked into all these conversations that I feel barely qualified to participate in (well--the Stargate/Community one I can totally keep up with--I'm alright with that). But I am totally going to lose touch the people who speak English and watch football. Not that I have any idea what's going on in the NFL either...
Some days make me want to run away and hide on the internet, but the past few days at work, I haven't even had time to check mail from the office. And I'm putting off logging into work right now...
More breakfast.
Woes! Containment failure.
But what I scooped into my bowl is crumbly banana goodness! I don't think I did anything wrong, other than maybe too much enthusiasm trying to get it out of the pan, but who can blame me? I'd definitely try it again.
However, I consoled myself with pumpkin chai latte mix from Trader Joes. I got to TJ's on vacay, yay, so I now have a couple of tins of chai latte mix and the last precious quarter of a loaf of green chile cheesebread. I wish I'd been able to stock up more, but I got there the second time and kinda froze up.
Anyway. Banana bread!
Cooking plans for this weekend include a butternut squash-farro thing and a potato-kale thing. I wonder if the butternut/farro thing would freeze. Probably, right? But I also keep remembering that I have Monday off, so no rush for anything! So far, I have done nothing.
