Yay Scrappy and Mom of Scrappy!
Everybody treat themselves for lunch! It's the only way to survive the Mon-pocalypse!
Our in-house cafe just started having hot soup options for lunch! Mmmm, gumbo.
Good news, Scrappy!
This [link] has been the excitement in my neighborhood today. At least the helicopter is gone now.
Hooray for good Scrappy's mom's lung news!
Hey, was it here that we were talking about transferring money internationally? It appears to be super hard to do so from the UK to here. We're trying to figure out how to do so for Tom's mother's house rental income and/or perhaps his share of a potential sale of the house.
First of all, he can't open a bank account there as a non-resident. And if he can find one that's been hanging around for 13 or so years open, we still don't know how to get the money from that account into our US account.
Huh. When I traveled internationally, money got transferred to my US account with no problem. In terms of not being able to open a US account: Is there someone with a US account you know and trust one hell of a lot? Transfer the money to the US account and have the US account buy travelers checks or precharged debit cards made out to you. (The debit cards will cost you a higher percent.) Once you have the account i don't know how to persuade your bank to make the transfer, but it should be doable.
And on a seperate note Yay for Scrappy's Mom. Hope the surgery goes super well.
What I just heard my boss say: "Sandra Bullock is going to be here tomorrow from 2:30 to 4."
What she actually said: "Sandra Boynton is going to be here tomorrow from 2:30 to 4."
The funny thing is that I'm probably more interested in/excited about meeting Sandra Boynton than Sandra Bullock. (I mean, really, what would I have to talk about with Sandra Bullock?)

Sandra Boynton! That would be fun.

Yes, I met some nice British people in a bank over the summer who were having all kinds of issues.
Nora, I expect every country is different, but I have never had much of an issue transferring money. When I lived in Brazil, I just wrote a check to a company and they cashed it. Also, companies like Western Union or Moneygram do it often. I have been paid several times by Moneygram when my client's family is overseas.
