Joyce: Dawn, you be good. Xander: We will. Just gonna play with some matches, run with scissors, take candy from some guy, I don't know his name.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Is there a relationship in To Sir With Love?

And, FTR, the provocateuse pecking order is:

    • handson
    • venus
    • spectacle
    • wetmen
    • bestof
    • barefoot

Which is not what I was expecting. Of the baby sites, it's beards, skirts, silverfoxes, which is again not what I expected--the numbers don't really align with the number of pictures in a usefully predictive way, except to separate the big boys from the runts.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Fashion dilemma! Going to a conference, trying not to check a bag. First night has a welcome party where one would make a first impression. Due to other commitments, I will only be there for an hour. There are events Thursday and Friday as well. Do I wear the really cute outfit to make a good first impression, or save it for one of the nights where I will get more mileage out of it?

Aaand then I thought a little harder and just ran over and yanked everything I could see (kitchen lights don't work) that wasn't in jars and triple bagged it. Everything was warm and inflated. Partly my usual late night industry, partly OMG gross, partly pure pity. I'll go over tomorrow to deal with jars and booze and bowls of destinkers.

Ooof, tough one, Vortex! Will you be there for an hour that a lot of others will be there for, or is it possible the ones you want to impress will have already left/not gotten there yet?

I am having a dilemma, because I do not want to pay to go to Cleveland. Sigh. My yearly drag conference has been horribly mismanaged this year, to the point that I wasn't really sure it was going to happen. And I REALLY want to see all my friends, because it's only once a year most of us are in the same place (bang for the buck!). But it's so damn expensive, and only for a couple days, and I worry it'll kinda suck...

I wonder how much of the Noble Teacher thing is used as justification for paying teachers shitwages. "Oh, they don't want money, they do it because it's a Higher Calling."

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Longer hours in our system often just means more of the same. Instead of more of the same, how about more enrichment, more music, more art?

I'd be all for that.

I love To Sir, With Love but it is totally the magical negro noble teacher movie. And we've all seen the Saturday Night Live parody from it had to be the 80s with Bob Geldof, right?

Cass - Sep 25, 2012 7:16:25 pm PDT #23493 of 30001
Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

And, FTR, the provocateuse pecking order is:

Huh. I'd have thought barefoot. That might be my preference talking.

Do I wear the really cute outfit to make a good first impression, or save it for one of the nights where I will get more mileage out of it?

I'd go for the best first impression.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Well, in Wisconsin, I know we are dealing with the teacher backlash and the constant pounding the unions have taken. Politicians have turned the public tide against teachers as over-paid, over-protected with their plush bennies and summers off.

I asked someone why the police and fire unions were left out of the assault on unions in Wisconsin and the person replied, "There would have been riots. Those people are heroes."

To which, I said, "Anyone who can spend 7 hours a day with my kids is a hero."

I know teachers are human but I can't help but be in awe.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I'd be all for that.

Or, you know experiential projects, or independent study, or internships or or or or.... I know it's culturally totally different, particularly around education, but the fact that South Korea's instructional time tops out at around 540 hours over 240 days and their math scores are 75 points higher boggles!
