I have good news!!! No bed bugs. The pest control guy sprayed outside and gave us a few small sticky traps. If we are still getting bites at the end of the week, he can come back and spray inside. Due to my asthma, he recommends me leaving for at least 4 hours and locking up the cats in one of the bathrooms. I hope we don't have to do that.

But, no bed bugs!!!!!!!!

Actually, I eat a surprisingly well-balanced and tasty meal while crapping out well-balanced craps, all while doing quality work for y'all, and you should give me more money.

Aw, I really wish I could cut and paste that.

Mostly, it's just that getting a promotion has led to heightened expectations and lower performance scores due to those expectations. Plus, I've been sick for two goddamn weeks, I got a flu shot this morning, and we had a fire drill this afternoon.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Is there any way out of this bullshit cycle?

I am going with more "blah blah I'm fabulous" on my review this year, because that's apparently what they want, instead of things like "I said I would do this, and I did it, on time and under budget."

Yeah, I get to do even more stuff and work my way back up?

Well, I kind of meant on a more global scale, this way that performance reviews work. There's no way it's really sustainable, is it? If an employee keeps doing more and more, and expectations get higher and higher, you can't always meet them, and then you're just getting punished for doing a good job.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

They put in a new system at my job last year, and they made a whole song and dance about how 3 is "meets expectations" and the expectations are really high, so most people should get a 3. So I gave myself a 3. My boss didn't hear the song and dance this year, so I got a 4. That's something.

We get that too. So then isn't it kind of pointless except for the people who aren't 3s? But we all have to go through the process and spend the time.

"Yes, 3 is meet expectations. But, you know, a really dedicated employee would want to do more than just meet expectations."

Is the thinking here.
