What is the time frame between showing things on the catwalk to maximum publicity and selling things for actual use?
The lead time is to allow for orders. Designers show their pieces, and then produce what's ordered by different departments stores and retailers. Time has to be built in to do that.
Also, I imagine magazine leadtimes figure in too, no?
Fifty Shades of "OMG, No Way" - Neatorama
A onesie with the words "Nine months ago mommy read 50 Shades of Grey". Huh.
Is "haute couture" custom made to the wearer? And "couture" just really good stuff you can get in fancy stores? As I said, I am fashion clueless.
"Ready to wear" is the "designer" stuff sold in stores.
The fashion looks shown now will also influence mass market stuff - colors, shapes, etc., are being watched by the people who design stuff for Gap, Old Navy, H&M, etc. and are starting their spring collections.
Huh, I didn't know there was such a lead time, though that makes sense.

Yes, and from what I understand they're looking for trends amongst what is showing now, so that they can use those trends when creating their Spring clothes.
