I could totally live on Spanish ham, cheese, and bread. Seriously.

That was pretty much what I did. Vegetables are thin on the ground in Spanish restaurants, although you can get spinach in some places, and the more Americanized restaurants might have some salad.

But basically I ate as much fruit as I could, because there wasn't much vegetables to be had.

But the bread is really good! And the ice cream.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

You guys, not only did I get caught twice in a marathon today, what was meant to be a short walk that turned into a long meander earlier this evening got me caught up in a funeral procession! With the big thing they carry and brass band and and and. Pictures...well, some are on fb, but the full set when I return.

It wasn't a funeral procession. Looks like a feast day celebration for the patron saint of the neighborhood/quarter/city. The brass band is de rigeur for these things. Funerals don't usually happen on Sundays in predominantly catholic countries. The bier is used to carry the statue that usually resides in a prominent place in the church. Were there people carrying banners with money pinned to them?

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Sarameg, that sounds fabulous.

I get to travel for work this week too, but only to Dallas (expect email at some point soon, msbelle).

I decided I didn't want to drive anywhere today but that I could motive myself to go garden, which led me to pull up a bush the realtor had planted that had died, which left a hole in the garden, which led me to go drive to OSH and get a new bush to put in the hole.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I can't decide if it would be good to have this street sign in my neighborhood, or not. [link]

Lee, I hate when that happens. Stupid things that require you do other things never intended.

aurelia, I'm going with awesome, leaving the reasons for the need for caped crusaders out of it.

Why aren't there vegetables?

I'm not sure, but I was told that it has to do with the Spanish attitude about eating out--that you get rich food when you eat out, and vegetables are for eating at home. So it's not that Spaniards don't eat vegetables, but that there isn't a practice of offering them in restaurants & cafes.

That said, the two meals we had in a private Spanish house involved Spanish omelet (tortilla espanola, they call it), steak, and hard-boiled eggs stuffed with tuna. And a cold tomato salad with balsamic vinegar. ::shrugs::
