Um, well, we listened to aggressively cheerful music sung by people chosen for their ability to dance. Then we ate cookie dough, and talked about boys.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

One of the problems my boss raised with working from home is a growing distance from everyone I work with. So I've been generally making a point of making fewer phone calls when I'm in the office (not fewer emails, though--what needs to be searchable stays searchable), and I swing by people's desks a lot.

I just went upstairs to the CIO and told her I was making a "closing the loop walkthrough" (closing the loop is her terminology), to make sure the paperwork that we were fussing over this morning is processed, and to tell her about how we're changing out methodology so the next time we do something like this it's cheaper.

I can do this shit, let's be clear. I just need to be diligent, because I get smacked with things that completely never occurred to me were acceptable failings in other people.

She complimented my outfit, and I think we're good. I don't know if that will trickle down to my boss--he told me to follow up with her assistant on Wednesday, but fuck that noise. I figured it would be better to do it a) soon, b) helpfully, c) while dressed in business formal.

And then I continued my walkthrough to schmooze with our primary business users, get one of them to send an email to my manager that I think I'll get rebuffed if I send, and talk about Batman as well as two of our upcoming projects.

I have gladhanded, I have connected, and I have closed fucking loops. Now I'm going to go through all the emails I've sent today, and resend anything I've not gotten what I need on.

This can't last, but while I'm smarting I might as well take advantage of the burn.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

OMGWTF actual voter fraud??

There are people speculating that that's why Romney won't release his tax returns, because they would reveal that his official address was not in Massachusetts.

Damn. This *whole* time I thought my sister's ex was white.

Shows how much attention I'm paying.

Sorry, Steph! It's a brothas and sistas only thing.

Man, I am never going to get my rope tying groove on.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, well, good for you. Shouldn't be necessary, but with the working from home issues, I can see maybe there's hotbutton stuff happening. So yeah, fine, go do it, make the effort, show willing. It's still stupid you have to, but if it is, then do it well.

I'm trying to work out why I thought this guy was white! I'm realising I don't remember any of the time when he was dating my sister, just the FWB afterparty.

She dated a string of European athletes when she went to Cambridge--I guess I thought he was one of those? And the ones I can specifically remember are definitely white....I think. Who went on to be a lawyer? His last name is kinda weird. I figured it was European weird, maybe?

Ah, fuck.

ANYWAY. I'm totally sure the woman my cousin is marrying in December is white. Good god, where has all the jungle fever gone? Do I have to get back into the game?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Huh. Apple now biggest company ever in U.S. history as measured by stock-value.

Surpassing Microsoft, GM, IBM...

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Hey smart people. I'm confused as to why so many in the GOP leadership/media are asking Akin to step down. I don't think he'll lose Missouri, and it will just help mainstream this whole "magic vaginas mean there is no such thing as a rape exception" thing they have going on.

Or...is it that there are some of them who want off the crazy train?

I'm not sure what the upside to having him step down is for them. The unhinged block of voters will just double-down, grab some chick-fil-a and head to the polls. The others who would die before voting democrat will hold their noses and vote for him. Maybe some will be disgusted and stay home, but I think he'll likely still win.

Thoughts?
