Yay Ottawa, I've got family up there.
I've had a few turnaround to Orlando from Los Angeles where I've been able to check in for my return flight before I've boarded my outgoing. That really sucks on cross country flights.

When asked in a debate what should happen to a healthy 28-year-old who chooses not to buy health insurance but later gets cancer, Todd Akin said, “All of us make decisions in our lives, and there are consequences of those decisions. People have to start being held accountable for their decisions and if somebody’s not buying insurance then they’re going to have to be selling their car or whatever it is to try to help cover that
And he claims to be Christian. Lovely.
I'm so glad to have the privilege of voting against him.
Ginger,
that kind of thing makes me want to choke the politician who said it. That is clearly someone who cannot imagine the myriad needs of his constituency and therefore should not be in public service.
at all.
I don't remember Jesus saying, "I've got mine, to hell with you." I do remember something on the lines of "As you have treated the least of you, so my father will treat you." Or words to that effect.
He's also clearly someone who has never had to think about money, ever, and has no idea what kind of costs health care can incur.
This has been a startlingly depressing year for women. How are we going backwards? It doesn't seem possible.
Well, don't members of Congress have some of the best health care in this country, setting aside the President and the Vice President?
Why would he give two fucks about the cost of healthcare? Don't they get lifetime health insurance (the good insurance to boot) after they serve like 2 terms?
Makes me want to run for office myself.
What gets me is that it's all done in punitive ways.
If they had done everything right then the treatment would be covered, only people who did something wrong are the ones caught in these bad situations so they get what they deserve. I hate hate hate this undercurrent of punishment in current politics.
I actually don't think women's issues have gone backward (but it fucking sure feels like it), but I do think that there is a great deal of publicity around gains that we thought we'd made but hadn't.
That's the depressing part.
I hate hate hate this undercurrent of punishment in current politics.
Yeah, I think someone should be punished for that.
It's remarkably Darwinian of them, this "successful people get good things" thing. And wouldn't they all pop their tops if this was pointed out to them.
