Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Co-workers were griping about the closing ceremonies, that the people weren't important enough--when they had Beatles to pick from, etc. I reminded them that Macca had been in the opening ceremony, and that George Michael and Annie Lennox are huge (as are the Spice Girls, despite our mandatory disdain for them).

It's so weird to think that the musical section was organised by a guy who made it huge and was voted greatest British songwriter by anyone (presumably British) and there's been time for all that to happen since I graduated high school and left. Like, he had a whole career in that time, and I don't have a CBE.

Testing apple cider rooibos. This better not suck.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Bowie should have been there live.

So true. And they should have swapped out Fat Boy Slim for Paul Oakenfold.

Because books.

Much job~ma, Gud.

could Ian Gallagher sound more nasally?

Right? It was horrible. But I guess Noel was the lead vocalist in Oasis?

The Spice Girls was really fun, but Mel B looked incredibly determined to be a Star again.

Eric Idle could not be more awesome in a pool filled with awesome sauce. Seriously? HOW SO AWESOME?!?!?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Live David Bowie would have been excellent, yes. Preferably related in some way to the Annie Lennox number.

No Ian was lead, but Noel was the talent, IMHO.

I have to assume that having Bowie there did occur to them, and there's some good reason it didn't happen.

Because books.

I saw speculation somewhere that Bowie's had heart problems, and maybe that was why?

Eric Idle could not be more awesome in a pool filled with awesome sauce.

His little spaceman shorts! His FAAAAACE. It was completely awesome.

I also feel bad and shallow saying this, but Freddy Mercury on the big jumbo screen seemed so 20th century after seeing Tupac's hologram dancing and singing onstage in 3D.

No heart problems for Bowie! It's UNPOSSIBLE. He's a spaceman and he'll never die.
