I am completely sad about David Rakoff, and hating on cancer quite a bit right now. I mean, more than usual, which is considerable already.
msbelle, if you worked near me I would take you to all the lunches all the time.
Also, random note:
Dear My Boss,
I know I'm an editor and skilled at picking up typos. However, that skill is entirely language-specific. I don't do number typos. And I would really prefer that when I say, "I'm sorry, but I really can't tell just from looking whether the listed left atrial heart mass of a non-PA-banded 4-week-old lamb should be 17 or 1.7 grams, so either you or the actual lab tech should be proofing the tables," you not get huffy and snap at me like I'm just trying to get out of number-proofing on account of sheer laziness. I'm trying to get out of it on account of
not knowing what the fuck I'm doing and not wanting to screw it up.
Also, please note that none of those numbers have changed since the very first draft four months ago, and you, the actual lamb heart dissector and weigher, read and proofed and edited it yourself over and over and never noticed. Ye gods and little fishhooks, dude!
Not much love at all right now,
Me
JZ,
I agree. I'm actually a little down about Rakoff. I didn't really know him at all, but I just loved his writing. Ah well. Ob-la-di and all that.
Video of the Synchronized Swiveling competition from yesterday
(will probably self destruct soon) Gone now
I'm saddened by Rakoff, too.
Adam Yauch's will was released, and there's been a lot of speculation about his entire estate being worth "only" 6.4 million.
Do I need to recalibrate? That seems like such a huge sum of money to me. Are people desensitized by the crazy epic sums we keep hearing about from billionaires in the news all the time?
The Synchronized Swiveling is awesome.
I am appalled that people are commenting on the size of anyone's estate. That's just so nobody's business.
That seems like such a huge sum of money to me.
Compared to, say, how much Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons are worth? It’s not exactly fair.
It’s not exactly fair.
Fair? What was he spending it on, and what was he doing for income? How could we possibly know what is fair?
Yeah, I dunno. I don't know how much he spent on charity, and Kristen brought up the point that just about three years of cancer treatments were probably pretty pricey. Plus Beastie Boys split everything three ways, regardless of who wrote what.
I know they got fleeced on LTI, and Paul's Boutique flopped when it came out. They didn't really sell a huge amount of records, and stopped touring in 2009, so that would be lost revenue. I don't know.
The Synchronized Swiveling is awesome.
It was a lot of fun, but now the video is going away
