While we are promoting our favorite religious orders, I have to plug the Sisters of St. Joseph, who, at my college, were all Ph.Ds and scholars-- very smart and kind. Sadly, I am pretty sure the goup in rochester will die out in the next 20 or so years. I think the youngest one is in her 0's by now.
I would have become a nun, for the very worst reasons, had I been Catholic. The professors lives seemed perfect to me- study, work, help people and have no worries about a roof over your head, clothes on your back, etc. Although I did actually hear that their families had to buy their clothes, not the order and they gave their salaries to the order.
That is really scary, meara. Good to call 911!
Yikes! Waiting for follow up, meara. I hope they found the scary person.
Ugh. And now it's 45 minutes later and no contact from the police...which means if they do call or knock, I'll be asleep. Grrr.
OTOH, as far as I can tell (I haven't been looking out the peephole) the guy hasn't come back.
But damnit, I want some sleep! I was already going to have to get up earlier than usual because of a meeting. Hrmph.
Gah! Meara, that is scary.
meara,
I hate that shit. I bet the guy got the wrong addy, but it doesn't make you feel any better.
Yikes, meara! Glad everything is actually OK.
Meep. Drunk or crazy seems right. I hope you got some sleep.
meara, ugh. I got a queasy adrenalin surge just *reading* your post; you must have been jumping out of your skin. Wishing you a very low-key and uneventful day after that night.
Timelies all!
Going to head to the airport in a little bit.
