Zoe: What's that, sir? Mal: Freedom, is what. Zoe: No, I meant what's that? Mal: Oh. Yeah. Just step around it. I think something must've been living in here.

Happy birthday, Aims!

Today is also my Friday. I'm heading over to the VividCon hotel in a couple of hours.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

is that right?

I heard it on public radio this morning.

did he find out why he was targeted?

I don't know.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I also admit ignorance here. Isn't The Cloud online storage? And how is it different from iCloud?

"The Cloud" means anything stored anywhere online. iCloud is Apple's proprietary online backup system.

"The cloud" didn't get hacked. Apple and Amazon got hacked.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

is that right? did he find out why he was targeted?

I think because he had a cool twitter handle.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The "cloud" is the concept of servers out there on the internet, you don't care particularly where. iCloud is Apple's slice of that pie. Carbonite has theirs, Google has a cloud implementation, Amazon was some of the first to go to market with cloud services for corporations.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

And it was short?

There was a great thing on Fresh Air recently about how The Cloud just means your stuff is stored on someone else's physical hard drive, probably in Virginia or somewhere.

information libertarian

My mother just asked me how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Nobody here butters the bread, right? You just put butter in the pan!

My mother is always calling me up to ask me how to make really basic stuff that I learned how to make from her. It's very disconcerting.
