I look more rad than Lutheranism

I was Ursuline educated and my great-aunt is an Ursuline and they, and other nuns I've known, are, for the most part, some really smart, talented, free thinking women.

When the order was founded, they were very radical for their time; their foundress, Angela Merici, believed they should be out among the laity, working with people who needed help, instead of cloistered away. They were also very dedicated, right from the start, in the 16th century, to educating women (specifically women). They are huge on social justice. They are fierce and awesome.

My favorites were the Franciscans I had in the latter part of grade shcool and for three years of High School.

I love the Franciscans. They're so hippie-granola-awesome. (My experience with the Franciscans comes from interning in 1992 at a Catholic magazine run by the Franciscans, so they might not be representative. They all wore Birkenstocks, ISTG.)

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

My confirmation name was Francis. (Patron saint of animals. Who else was I going to pick?)

Meanwhile, for anyone thinking of visiting Australia and worried about our snakes, good news! Our spiders have you covered: [link]

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

That settles it that Australia is permanently off the Places To See list.

Australia is like the planet's booby trap.

Hey, I'll be in Queensland in November! Near Cairns, too!

I'm alternating between disturbingly calm and mellow and AHHHPANICGAHTOMORROWAHHHPACKING. I'M GOING TO MADRID TOMORROW!

But I'm mostly packed. Will be able to finish it up once I've used my toiletries in the morning. Everything fits in the checked bag (and it is carryon-acceptable size) and I've got my backpack for the laptop and spare underwear, and my daytrippy bag that doubles as my swim bag, but originally was bought to travel. Which can fit inside the backpack.

And now my laundry is done, so I need to go make the bed.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

WOOOO MADRID!! Have a great trip.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Have an awesome time, Sarameg!

I am charging the spare camera battery as we speak.

I think I'll make a good go of it.
