I much prefer gas to electric. I have not lived in a house with an electric stove in over 20 years either. It's one of the things that matters to me when we look for new places (another is water pressure).
I'm excited that I know someone who worked on it!
Ditto!!
Holy crap, that vaulter is 37. (The German originally from Uzbekistan, I mean.)

This is something like her sixth Olympics.
I love a gas cooktop, but prefer an electric oven. My dream kitchen has a gas cooktop with a grill and a hood that vents to the outside and two electric wall ovens.
When my parents redid their kitchen a while ago (when we moved into the house, the kitchen was about 8x8 feet, if that), they had a gas stove and electric oven put in. That's where I mostly learned to cook, so it's what seems right to me.

Technically originally from the USSR! She's like super human and her story is incredible.
If you haven't, all of you should read Chris Cleave's book Gold, which is about three Olympians, two of whom are married and raising a child who has cancer.
And now the other thing we were talking about at dinner: How bronze winners are more satisfied than silver, because people who get the silver just think about how close they were to gold. People who get bronze think about how close they were to nothing.
