Also, why were the opening ceremonies so damned late?
Because that spectacle wouldn't have looked so good in the daylight? I mean, I'm guessing.

Just woke up from a norco nap; the ceremonies haven't started yet here. I'm as shocked as anyone that something I do all the time-- trip while running-- could result in something like this. And I do have to fly later this month! I have no idea what the normal procedure is for cyborgs and metal detectors.
But I'm lucky for various reasons-- Bob is off for summer, my bosses are understanding, and I have good sick leave and a job w/o deadlines.
Ginger, the BBC and the rest of the British media I've read refer to them as copper petals. They become more important towards the end of the ceremony.
I got a better look, they do look like petals. They will all make something pretty later on, I'm sure.

The Queen is sort of a mashup, looks-wise, of my two grandmothers, so I'm fond of her. And my paternal grandmother usually looked just as unenthusiastic about everything, but she was really a sweetheart.
Maybe the Queen has just reached a point of age and length of rule where she doesn't feel like she has to smile if she doesn't want to.
Girl marching with Mexico who has two fingers in her mouth, whistling!
Amych, there's a fencing commercial!
Covering sports was probably not such a big deal after the Western District. Of course, it was different before crack, like many urban centers...that might actually be crime's "BC"
I couldn't figure out why Ryan Seacrest was there. Doesn't he work for Fox?
