Bon! My broken arm sistah!
At least you broke it being all athletic and shit; I tripped on my feet in my folks' living room like a dork.
Cast? Brace? Pin and plates? if you need advice, lemme know! We can compare X-rays!
If you D0 get a cast, spring for the extra cash for the waterproof cast, I swear. Totes worth the $35-$60.
I haven't seen an ortho yet-- all I know is that they're putting a pin in, presumably with a cast?
I basically snapped one of my lower arm bones apart.
But the advice about waterproof cast is really helpful!
British Ambassador Westmacott is on Colbert wearing *bright red socks*. I'm enchanted by this.
I'm not saying its impossible, but I haven't run across Guadalupe as a last name.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Maria Guadalupe Sanchez (as in, Maria Guadalupe is her first name and Sanchez is her only last name). I have not run across Guadalupe as a last name either and I feel like my students all have urban spoon names (you know, it's like the same 25 names in different combinations) but I have taught in LA public schools in different neighborhoods for years now so I've seen lots of the variations.
OH! I can imagine a Maria DeGuadalupe, not named after the virgin but similar to Maria DeLeon.
I'm going to offer my non-specialist opinion and say that clean breaks are better, bon. Better than some crazy ass spiral fracture shit.
thank you all for words of sanity.
unsurprisingly unable to sleep. I have written checks for bills and am now doing the long overdue report to the adoption agency and I will finish and email my mother.
Happy birthday, Kat (or belated if you read this Friday morning)!
I am sorry, msbelle. That seems unhelpful even if they are concerned. I hope you can sleep soon.
Hope sleep finds you quickly, msbelle.
And Cass, hope you get some sleep too and get back some of those spoons.
Kat, that's helpful -- thanks!
Bon, I had a metal plate and 7 screws in my arm (I could have had a cast, not surgery, but I elected to have the surgery, as my ortho said my wrist mobility would be better and there would be a lessened chance of arthritis in the wrist as I got older.)
The surgery was out-patient; I wore a soft cast (bandages) over a half-splint with dressings underneath for 2 1/2 weeks, and then a removable velcro brace for 2 months. Let me tell you, in this heat and with my typing intensive job, being able to take the brace off to shower and scratch itches and exfoliate and put on lotion (gently and cautiously) was a GODSEND in this heat.
It all depends on the break and your ortho's recommendation, though.
done and done. one thing out of my head and off my plate and out of my mother's head.
