All right, no one's killing folk today, on account of our very tight schedule.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Whoa, seriously? That story just touched my heart, I wanted to share the generosity of people that would stand guard outside of a child's house at night so they wouldn't be scared. They are so amazing.

It's really a great story.

Hey you guys, guess what I'm going to get to do after I move? Preferential voting!!!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

We're seeing it tonight at a theater that's part of a huge entertainment complex on the river (restaurants, bars, theater, aquarium, shopping, arcade, etc.). I'm assuming there will be more security tonight, but that's got to be hard as hell to screen for.

Still, some extra security won't be unappreciated.

Compassionately intolerant

Vortex, did you see the craziness with your biker post to Good Stuff?? 30K notes!

I tried to post about this on facebook, but could not.

Years ago, after seeing a piece on BACA on the news, I wrote to the president of the organization, thanking them for being there for kids in a way I wish someone had been there for me.

I was incredibly choked up by his earnest and sincere response.

It was short and very raw...clearly not a fellow with a lot of book learning. He thanked me for saying nice things about them and then said that he was sorry that no one was there for me.

"If I could have I would have."

I'll never forget it.

eta: corrected for the irony of having loads of book learning plus dyslexia. sigh.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

bonny, that is utterly lovely. I teared up reading that.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

bonny, that is utterly lovely. I teared up reading that.

Yes. This.

I countered with "pity the poor people in the crossfire"

Yeah, dark theater filled with smoke... it would take a Jason Bourne type for that to end well.

Some people are really great. Edit: The bikers I mean, of course, not any shooters.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Hubby just suggested that if there had been someone with a concealed weapon in the audience, then it wouldn't have been so bad.

He was in head-to-toe Kevlar, so someone shooting from the audience would have had to make a perfect head shot in a dark, smoke-filled theater.

I usually end up seeing things here first! Usually look to Wash Post and NyTimes for articles once I hear something happened. I have the local free paper's blog (Slog) and a local neughborhood blog that get me pretty much all the local news I need. I never read the Seattle Times.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

He was in head-to-toe Kevlar, so someone shooting from the audience would have had to make a perfect head shot in a dark, smoke-filled theater.

Yeah. Without shooting any of the terrified people trying to get away.

It baffles me that I, a person who has never even fired a gun, can comprehend the logistics of this, yet someone who is so in love with guns cannot see how another gun in the hands of some random would-be self-styled hero in that situation would make things even worse.
