Shouldn't this article at least gloss over things like the 1978 Superman movie? Never mind the serials, or Green Hornet or the Batman TV show or earlier movie? Tarzan, et al? There was an internet in 1992, because I wasn't the only one on it in 1987. And there were comic fans with me too.

His thesis just seems fundamentally flawed if he doesn't explain why those things don't count. Because it feels like he's saying they don't exist, which is different.
