My favorite mug right now is a oversized one I bought at TJ Maxx. It's the perfect size to fit the amount of coffee my French Press makes.
I need to get two of the trees in my backyard pruned like woah, so I spent part of my morning meeting the neighbor who lives behind me (one of the trees overhangs her property a lot, so they will need to go on her property too). She was very nice and talkative and told me some about the previous owners of my house.
I guess the people who owned it before the agent who flipped it and sold it to me, were a young family, and they were working on the house a lot, and doing good things, but then one day, after they had been there about 10 months, she looked out, and saw the husband jumping over the fence between the yards, chased by the police.
We got to talk to Rio waiting in the ice cream line and catch up a little bit, but as you can imagine it was a total Rookie madhouse with about 150 girls (I'm guessing) all wearing their sassiest ensembles.
I told her it was suggested that I bring her a blueberry bagel that spelled out FUCKOS and she said, "You should have!"
"But where does one find such a bagel?" I said in lame excuse.
"You should have made it!"
Anyway, LAistas the Rookie tour will be there for a whole week of events so check the schedule to see where and what they're doing.
My favorite mugs are my Sunspot Solar Observatory mug, my (sob) broken Lowell Observatory mugs [link] , and my Apache Point Observatory mug this silhouette [link] , just the outline, on a dark blue mug.) I also have a Kitt Peak, Kennedy Space Center and a Sloan mug. Oddly, not a Hubble... Sense a theme?
I need to either clean or do something otherwise productive. Hrm.
I think all productivity is done for the day. oh wait, I need to get clothes onto the dryers, then I'll be done, I think.
I would lie to bake something and also wash the dishes, by my head and feet ache, so I doubt I will.
Sean, I marked your post about the sound of gunfire, because it's such a perfect throw-away bit to show the blase nature of someone from a tough neighborhood. Now I need to find the story to put it in.
I miss Rio.
It is inevitable that one never has as much Rio in one's life as one would like.
But JZ got to meet her for the first time, and kept saying, "How old is she? She looks like a teenager!"
We actually got to spend a fair amount of time with her considering she was wrangling a small herd of teenagers in the Mission. We went over to Dolores Park with them and Rio kept coming around to talk with us while she took pictures and did meet and greets and introduce various folks.
She took Matilda's picture (wearing her Jilli-skirt that JZ made) and told us it would be up on the Rookie Tumblr.
I'd be happy with an occasional drive-by FUCKO.
