Same tree, different angle
They were lucky it wasn't more - I'm pretty sure this came off the giant double-trunk oak in their front yard. If it had been the whole tree, they'd probably be homeless this morning.
[edit - In that picture, I can definitely see it tangled in some wires, but since they didn't lose power I'm guessing those are telephone lines.]
No kidding. Still must have been quite a shock - did they know it when it happened? I'd assume it was loud, but I remember waking up one morning in high school to see big apple tree had split off a huge chunk and fallen parallel to the house. I remember thinking, "How did no one hear that?" (If a tree falls in a storm...)
the trees are trying to kill us. I am glad no one was hurt.
Jessica - in looking at your parent's house, it looks a lot like the one that my brother and sister in law are buying in Grand Rapids. Except the garage is on the other side.
I'm glad they (and house) are relatively unscathed. There are TONS of trees down around here. Target in Towson was dim and running registers off generators, but they've lost everything in the freezer displays (it's a grocery Target.)
I'm putting in the second AC.
Aaand my Y doesn't have power. Neither does Towson. Sigh.
Our power went out last night and is still out. Top of a big tree across the street came down and is blocking the street. It is actually kind of relaxing, though, just chilling out on the porch.

I now have 2 running AC units, if you need them. The upstairs might get kinda full, as I've extended the invites all over, but hey, cool!
Downstairs is definitely warmer. 106 outside will do that, I guess.
Oooh, Dundalk Y appears to be open, I might try there later today if mine doesn't open by the time I'm ready. Before my hair appt got cancelled, I was going to swim in Ellicott, but that's a bit of a ways to go....
HOMG, Jess! I am so glad your folks are ok!
The isosceles two-handed square-to-target stance is the modern standard, but I think a modified weaver is still better for low upper-body strength. The female cop on Person of Interest does look pretty solid, but most of the rest of the people are just filling the air with shot.
Hmm. I have to get ready for a friend's kids bday party, but I will research this. (I am thinking about getting D a lesson at a shooting range for his birthday, if it's not too dear!)
