You never know if a girl's gonna say 'yes', or if she's gonna laugh in your face and pull out your still-beating heart and crush it into the ground with her heel.

Thrive to spite them

I do know people who think like that, I've run across a few in online.

Like the guy who said passing Obamacare meant people would stop working because they were getting something for free and it's like feeding birds.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

They keep using that word-- I don't think it means what they think it means.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Just got back from taking the kids to see Brave. I bawled like a baby. And Olivia is Merida. I swear, she looked up at me and said, "see what happens when you boss people around."

*facepalm*

I'm very sorry about your husband, Dana.

Many Birthday Happies, Hec!

So relieved the court ruled that way.

Crap. We are having brownouts here, perhaps because of the 98 degree heat. My UPS saved my work computer the first few times, but not the last.

We have this deal with the power company that when there is regional high demand, we run run as many systems as possible off the generators to reduce our load on the grid. They used to cycle the AC, but they can't do that anymore because the computer rooms already run a bit too warm.

Guess what happened today? I was surprised, since we had a longer run of hot weather a while back, and this one is just starting. I guess this is a wider-spread heat wave?

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Whenever someone says something like that, I always think it's much more telling about the speaker than about the society they think is about to collapse.

It keeps getting hotter in here. If current trends continue, in a day I'll probably burst into flames.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

There was never a day when I didn't know our health care system was fucked up. After my sister was born with CP and epilepsy, my parents squeezed every penny to pay for her care. Insurance from my dad's work covered hospitalization, but nothing else. My parents were audited once for medical bills, and after my dad went into the audit with all the receipts, the tax person looked them over, said, "I'm very sorry," and that was that.

We had a minister once who clearly believed that we had done something wrong, somehow, to have so many medical problems. Then he fell and broke his leg in six places. My mother just barely restrained herself from asking him what he did to deserve that.

The only people who can believe that we don't need government-paid health care and a safety net are the wealthy and people who think their children will all be healthy; they'll never have an accident; the company president will never abscond with millions and bankrupt the company they work for; and that lightning never strikes anyone.

Dana, I am so sorry about your husband's lay-off and wish him strength and peace to get through the funeral.

Steph that guy also said he'd stop arguing with me since I wasn't smart enough to understand how the world works.
