brillig

I like movies about dumb people where I can root for nasty things to happen to them. "Eat the idiot blonde! She's right there! Eat her!"

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

Regarding last night, for the record, I don't care if she was hooking up or not. I was just in that mom worry zone. Shoot, at her age, I was married and had an infant.

Fiction question--if you had to pick one over the other, would you prefer a story about people dumber than you, or about people you're dumber than?

I'd rather the story be about people smarter than me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I made an ass of myself in the meeting this morning too, but I'm not apologising for that. If I have to say "What information do you need to do the work on your plate today? Okay, now ask him for it." it's their fault, not mine.

Hey, guys, do you know that Windows will tell you how many files are in a folder if you right click on it and view properties? It's so exciting. Imagine if all Windows developers knew this! The things they could accomplish...

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

For all you logic fiends: Yo, Is This Liar-Paradoxical?

KurtGrellingIII asked: Hey, sometimes some of my grandparents’ predicate definitions are really impredicative, and it’s so embarrassing when they do it in public I feel like apologising for them, even though they are from a different era I guess. But is it liar-paradoxical of ME if I don’t say anything to them about it?

Yo, a little impredicativity does NOT mean they’re being liar-paradoxical. It might not even be paradoxical at all; chill the fuck out and don’t be so ageist.

I don't understand this blog at all but I love it.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I'm interested in competence: if a person less smart than me displays competence, I'm quite happy with that.

ETA: Also, intelligence/smarts is so multi-variant that there are plenty of people stupider than me in some ways and smarter than me in others. So it's not all that useful an adjective, I guess.

It's so exciting. Imagine if all Windows developers knew this! The things they could accomplish...

Oooh, the sarcasm, it burns.

My boss is out for the next 2 weeks. It's going to be very hard to show up on time every day. Sigh.

Because books.

True. And sophistication is going to vary depending on circumstances.

I think whether the characters are interesting is probably a better question.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I'm interested in competence: if a person less smart than me displays competence, I'm quite happy with that.

Yes, that.

Of course I am not capable of having a discussion in just one place so...here's the context: The characters in Prometheus are relatable because they make stupid decisions because I am stupid and I like stories about stupid people.

But...I'm not stupid, and I like stories where, as relates to the topic of the movie, characters are brighter than I am, not dumber than or as dumb as. I'm not actually looking to learn with the characters, I'm looking to learn from them, if applicable.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, intelligence/smarts is so multi-variant that there are plenty of people stupider than me in some ways and smarter than me in others.

True fact.
