I have a student planning to defend the dissertation today.
said student sent the committee the draft 2 weeks before the defense. and as chair I received it the same time as the committee! I did not get a chance to review it ahead of time and last time I'd seen it was April.
she sent me her powerpoint slides for the defense late Monday. I gave her comments yesterday morning first thing. She sends me an email saying, she had already practiced her way and that she was probably not going to make the changes I recommended.
So, why did I drop everything to give her comments? I have 1001 things to do right now.
Is it against the law to choke a student? Do we have buffista defense attorneys?
No, I'm not going to choke her.
But if she tests me, I might have to get all Black diva extra-special on her, and no one wants that.
I wish I had taken off today as a beach day! But now it's too late to.
I am dressed as if I am going to the beach...but at work. (Peasant-y dress & sandals.) We've taken the business side right out of business casual.
Oh, go ahead and choke her. You're leaving in a few weeks anyway. It can be a parting gift, to compensate for all the hundreds of students you've thoughtfully refrained from throttling over the past umpteen years.
Is it against the law to choke a student?
I have often asked myself this, generally when I am the only attorney in a room full of law students.
Speaking of law, the scotusblog will start covering the US Supreme Court and the orders and opinions it will be handing down today in about 15 minutes through a live blog. Most people think they will wait on healthcare until next week, but no one knows for sure. The whole session usually takes no more than 20 minutes.
oh le nubian, that would piss me off. I get annoyed when my students decide to ignore needed changes, but with a dissertation? boggle
I'm even earlier at work this morning because I couldn't sleep and it's not like the pain is going to go away if I wait. So while I could remotely drive (and that is only remotely) I did so.
Problem is, I think it's still unseemly for me to break down in tears.
I'm not sure the first nerve block worked right, and I'm pretty much at the end of my rope. And I'm definitely at the end of the flexeril, but that's probably because of how many I'd take at a time to see if there would be any effect. Actually, I guess that would average out. I'd take the whole days worth in the morning, nothing would happen, and I wouldn't take any more for at least a day.
Still, when they told me they didn't have my muffin I nearly cried. The professional frustration I'm going start coming up against in 15 minutes--I have no idea how to get through.
Oh crud, ita. I don't suppose coming in early means you get to leave early too?
Not to mention this student has complained about me several times to colleagues at other universities (and of course it has gotten back to me).
If not but for me, she wouldn't have final funding to complete her dissertation this summer. On my sole recommendation, she received the funding.
I'm really NOT going to choke her. I'm not.
