Mal: Okay. She won't be winning any beauty contests anytime soon. But she is solid. Ship like this, be with ya 'til the day you die. Zoe: 'Cause it's a deathtrap.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

That is a really pretty piece, sara. Do you know what about your suggestions is new for her?

I was poking around the website that had the Star Trek engagement ring, and that pin reminds me of some of their other rings. Let's see if my tumblr is tagged usefully....aha. See? Hers are water lilies, but at that size I don't think any florists are getting their knickers in a twist.

It's for the best that I don't offhand (erm) know any of my ring sizes, because the simplicity of these stacking rings really appeals to me.

In general, I need to stop looking at jewellery. Except, say, if it was for my mother, for whom I'm pretty sure we've bought nothing. I will take a moment after posting this to at least find a card for my father.

Watching the last Harry Potter movie out of the corner of my eye. A couple movies back I stopped paying so much attention to the movies (although I'd read all the books), so I don't remember everything that's going on, or who many of these people are. Still, Rather bleak battle scenes there--I have to remind myself that a large portion of the fans aged with the characters, and aren't the 12 year olds I usually visualise them as. Erm, not that there aren't new 12 year olds.

It's kind of relieving to not be all emotional about something clearly sad. I teared up watching Young Justice this morning, and it was a fucking repeat.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Sorry I can't make it more public!

Flickr guest pass?

Dogwood in 3D, but also a pin. She mentioned she had been invited to a garden show as a vendor, and so was thinking about some 3D florals, mainly cherry blossoms (a lot of her earlier work is silver cutouts with glass, also in botanicals, but 2d.) I got all excited and asked about dogwoods. She told me she'd see what she could do. So then she fashioned the blossom, but first attempt as earrings (which mom doesn't wear and S knew this, she just wanted to see if I liked the style first, and then they sold out!) Then it was her figuring out how to mount it, how to make the branch, etc. Apparently, the mounting and adding the pin to sit right gave her fits. But the whole process and research has made her want to expand doing the 3D botanicals, because they sell and because it challenged her to learn new things and spend a lot of time in gardens studying.

That's really cool, sarameg.

If I were going to do scruff.provocateuse.com, this would totally go up on it. Yerp.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

You should totally do that.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Do you want a volunteer to do research?

I need to leave the house by about 8:00 tomorrow, which probably means I should be packed already, but it's still too damn hot in my house to move.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

That's lovely, sarameg.

OMG so tired. Spent the entire day at the pier. Kids had fun. Adults had fun. But now we're all wiped.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

ita, Tim wanted you to ask the nut shot guy what he would do if he were being raped (let's assume by a dude). If all his other defenses didn't work, would he go for the nut shot, or would he understand that The Guy Code says No Nut Shots, so he just has to take it like a man?

(Most of that is me paraphrasing Tim, including "take it like a man". I am horribly vulgar and worry that every day I'm with him I am slowly eroding his classiness.)

We were out with some friends who recently started krav, and I asked them the nut shot question, and they were all, "HELL no -- they teach us to go for the nut shot in krav!"

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I rescued a little praying mantis. She got trapped inside. The cats were lying in wait for her to come down off the ceiling. I shut them in the bathroom and coaxed her slowly and carefully out the door, past the cobwebs, and safely into an azalea. Part of me thinks I am ridiculous, but I couldn't let the cats kill her. I like mantises.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Mantises are cool.

Patrick Stewart with hair is a little disturbing.
