Unrelatedly (OR IS IT?), why do I get phone calls from numbers I don't recognize in which, when I let them go to the machine, the callers say "Hello?" over the outgoing message and then hang up at the tone? Who are these people and why don't they know how to leave messages?

I think of it as my crunchy candy coating protecting me from the world speeding by. Then I yell at zoomy motorcycles to be careful because they do not have a crunchy candy coating to protect them. I try not to say it out loud if I have passengers.
