I guess the problem is he assigns the male domination of some fields to an unspecified explanation. I mean, as far as he's concerned, there's probably a single explanation for all of it. Were you to try to pin him down on one, he'd have no reason to commit to it. Just something about maleness and femaleness that explains all of it, including the rock singers one which is unanswerable (seriously, I've been sitting here for like 30 minutes with no answer to the male version). Anyway the household thinks that a list of female philsophers is way too specific to actually try to defeat the Stay-Puft man that is his point.

But do female philosophers who write papers but do not teach philosophy count? What if they are romantically involved with another academic? We also can not count them.

A recurring discussion that comes up in my Women in Astronomy newsletter is a stat analysis of % of women in various stages of PhD career, publications and speakers. The main differential comes up in the number of invited speakers, versus achievements. It's encouraging that it's all being tracked. Discouraging in the findings, most often.

I am a puddle of tears watching 20/20 tonight. She has made such amazing progress in her recovery.
It is different, but it brings back the car accident my cousin had and the resulting traumatic brain injury. That was over two years ago and she just got her drivers license back.
Both women had a hard time pulling the words they wanted to use and I can't imagine that frustration. J sounds like her verbal skills have returned but when I ask her about it, she has told me it is still a struggle. I'm sure Gabby will keep making progress.
I feel like I'm failing at my words here.

I just watched the cold open of Two and a Half Men by mistake. So by mistake I turned the TV off instead of changing the channel. I have two reactions. One is WTF? And the other is--really? WTF? I think I need chocolate to fix this.
