Re: Penn State.
From an article on Chronicle of Higher Education about Spanier (the former president of PSU):
A grand-jury report released last week noted that Penn State officials failed to contact proper authorities when they learned of allegations that Jerry Sandusky, a former assistant football coach, sexually assaulted a boy in a university shower in 2002. Mr. Spanier denied that he was told the incident was "sexual in nature," suggesting he was only informed that the child and Mr. Sandusky were "horsing around in the shower."
the bolded area is mine. Isn't it curious that Sandusky used the same phrasing as Spanier about the shower incident(s)? I don't think this is a good thing. It demonstrates to me that Spanier likely did not do proper investigation of the charges and took Sandusky's words for it.
Anyone else have a different interpretation?
Apparently I'm feeling bull-headed today (this is the second "yeah, but" I've posted in 5 minutes), because (and I'm sure this is NOT the point that was being made) I have totally bemoaned the male-dominated-ness of rock bands. Why is it so common as to be unremarkable that a whole lot of the big-name bands (and a whole lot of the local/regional ones, as well) are all-male? I don't attribute it to a talent gap, of course. I think it's more likely an effect of music-scene culture.
Reasonably well-known means he's heard of them. It's beyond his depth to think that maybe he's completely ignorant of popular music. Adele has been sitting at the top of iTunes forever with Rolling in the Deep, and she plays just about everything.
That sounds likely to me.
Apart from singers, those with romantic involvement with boy(s) in the band and members of all-girl groups, can you think of even one reasonably well known female rock musician?
WTF's wrong with all-girl groups? You don't think Janet Weiss could drum for any group in America? Or Dee Plakas (L7) for that matter? Or Kate Schellenbach (Luscious Jackons, also original drummer for the muthafuckin Beastie boys)? And that's just drummers.
Oh yeah, it is very male-dominated. Rookie had a piece last month on how to buy a guitar that was wonderful.
Y'all, I think Loki has forsaken me for his new girlfriend. The two of them have been upstairs playing pretty much since I got home.
Oh. Oh. I wanted to go town about Kate Schellenbach. There's an adorable vid of her and Yauch and I think Mike D. playing on some local talent show when they were zygotes.
