We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

yay Jessica Springsteen! that's adorable.

Although it is pretty odd to think of the working man's troubador being the father of a star of such an upper-class sport.

The allegations are already out that Sandusky pimped out kids to high paying donors, and that the university knew about it and covered it up

OMG. That's... god, that's like something from a movie. It can't be true. Just on logistics alone--how could Sandusky know which donors to approach? And how many could there possibly be? It strikes me as really farfetched. I so hope it's not true, primarily for the kids, but also because I can't bring myself to believe there are that many pedophiles out there in positions of power and influence.

Yeah, the logistics don't make much sense. I just can't see something like that going on for that long without someone saying something. There would be way too many people involved to count on them all to stay quiet.

In light of what we know about how many adults knew of Sandusky's abuse of those boys and who chose to do what amounts to nothing to protect them, I don't find it impossible to believe people would choose to say nothing. Because they already did. Over and over again.

Occupy Penn State is going to disband, to show their support for the victims. I'm uncertain how that train of logic works.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

LA LA LA LA LA

Unfortunately the guy is still on the loose. But the girl is okay. This is how you act, for fuck's sake.

This reminded me -- the other week, my parents got a robocall when I was there about some recent attacks. My grandmother was all, "BE CAREFUL! Don't walk to the subway alone!" Apparently some guy has been running up on women and sexually assaulting them in some (unclear to me) way, but running away when they yelled and/or hit him. I said he sounds like a neighborhood perv, which is so different from a neighborhood rapist, so I wasn't that worried. I mean, ew, but seriously.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Ugh, sounds very much like the Brooklyn Groper.

Some students are organizing a candlelight vigil tomorrow night to show support for the victims. So far, over 5,000 people have said on facebook that they're attending.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

When I was in college, we had the mad brick dropper, who would go up to women and drop a heavy object in a bag on her foot. We rather thought "look out for the mad brick dropper" was some kind of urban legend, but then we started talking with a woman on crutches who felt rather ridiculous being an actual victim of the mad brick dropper. I think they finally caught him.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

When I was in junior high, there was someone breaking into homes in the Joliet area and bashing teenage girls on the head. I don't think anyone died, but a friend of my brother's ended up with a metal plate in her head. The person sliced through her screen window to get into her room. Turns out the only thing all the victims had in common was that they had been at the local roller skating rink in the prior several months. I don't think they ever actually caught the guy.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

re: penn state

I wonder if the details are as sketchy as Scola indicates. If two columnists are investigating this issue (including one who already reported a year ago on the Sandusky coverup) then I would like to believe this, but I'm preparing to hear the worst.
