"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm asking because all I've read has said that the GA was vague in his conversation with Paterno.

Paterno has said he was vague. McQueary says he was specific. I'm not sure where I saw it. Just going through Google News.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Also, reports from downtown say that police are using tear gas. This will not end well.

God, FUCK the students, too, and their ridiculous tiny worldviews. This is not about goddamn FOOTBALL. This is about human beings who were sexually abused but got ignored for years.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I suspect Paterno's statement is quoted in the grand jury presentment, but it has taken 15 minutes or so to download the pdf halfway. But when it does, I will let you know!

It's on page seven, but it's not directly quoted. Since it contradicts the McQueary testimony, I assume it comes from Paterno himself. So, he was told that McQueary witnessed something of a sexual nature with a ten -year-old, which seems to indicate that Paterno, by his own admission, failed at life.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

The grand jury report is on the WaPo site, though I don't have a link handy.

The GA also met directly with Schultz and Curley and testified that he was quite explicit about what he saw. The grand jury found him highly credible. Them, not so much.

Skimming the report, because it's ugly, it says the GA

"reported what he had seen" to Paterno. For S and C, it says "witnessed what he believed to be Sandusky having anal sex with a boy" in the showers.

I supposed he could have said something different to Paterno, though clearly he still said it was something sexual. But I don't see why.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

sister of one of the victims is having a tough time as a student at Penn State.

I think this is heartbreaking.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I...can't comment anymore on the Penn stuff.

Suzi, I am so sorry for you and for K-Bug. Good thoughts to you, my dear.

I love HFH generally, but my grandparents were the ones who started the HFH chapter in your fair city, Erin! So I like to read about what they're doing today.

Kate, I am sure they will still be working on it tomorrow. Are your grandparents still with you? I will be happy to take a picture! Heck, I'll take a carafe of hot cocoa down in your grandparents' honor.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

At the very least, couldn't this have been reported to campus police for full investigation?

The Penn State campus police are sworn officers, i.e., the same as municipal police, and investigated an incident as early as 1998 in which a mother reported that her 11-year-old son had showered with Sandusky. That case was also referred to the state. The PD reports to Gary Schultz, the VP for finance and business, who was charged with perjury and failure to report. The GA told Schultz directly about the event he witnessed, but Schultz didn't refer it to campus police for investigation.

I need to find a word more appalling than appalling.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I need to find a word more appalling than appalling.

This pretty much sums up my feelings right now.

'm amused that my sorta-hippy-conservationist-organic/peace-corp-naturalist neighbors' wedding celebrations out in the midwest was SO midwestern,

You can take the girl out of the midwest, but you can't take the midwest out of the girl! Roomie (who went to my same high school) and i were just talking about being midwestern at heart the other day (she also lived in DC, and in London).

This morning I wrote, scanned, and sent a letter to your Board of Trustees, reminding them of their responsibilities.

Kick ass, Rick!

The graduate assistant, Mike McQueary, was truthful in his testimony (as far as anybody knows), and didn't have a legal duty to report.

Hmph. Legal duty my ass. I still find it damn sketchy--I mean, bad enough you hear someone tell you "I saw horrible things". But when you're the one who actually SAW the horrible things, you've got a duty...

And, police have started using mace on the students downtown.

OMG. That's....just not right. I mean, first--go home, students. This is not worth protesting. And second--cops? Really? MACE?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

OMG. That's....just not right. I mean, first--go home, students. This is not worth protesting. And second--cops? Really? MACE?

The crowd of students has already torn down two streetlights. Seems like the tear gas (or whatever they're using -- is there a difference between tear gas and mace? Different tweeters are using different words) has convinced the students to leave downtown, but they're headed back toward the administration building.
