Heh. Most of my Facebook feed is about Steve Jobs, and 99% of it is general Changed Technology, RIP, etc. The other 1% is a sort of unhinged hatefest for him and Apple products. And I'm thinking, Dude, you don't like Apple, that's cool, but maybe decaf is a good idea.
And then I realized I keep some people on my FB feed for the sheer entertainment value. Like this dude -- NEVER going to be a mellow, reasonable human being. Dude hates EVERYTHING except, I think, puppies. Although he would probably hate Steve Jobs' puppy, I don't know.
Re-reading Jobs bio one of the things that sticks out is that when Apple was teetering on the brink, '97-'98, Bill Gates invested $150 million in them.
So contrary to how capitalism is supposed to work. You know? Kill off your rivals? Yet, Gates knew the industry was better for having an Apple in it.

I just (politely) challenged a friend from high school who suggested that the Wall St. protesters go do something productive, like build a computer in a garage.
This was on the unhinged hatefest side. I am not an Apple fan myself, but now is not the time to rip into Steve Jobs. I can recognize world-changing genius and a life cut short without wanting to own an i-anything.
So my Shawn ryan interview is totes fucked. I did something dumb, and all you can hear is my questions, and not his answers. I'm sort of screwed on that. I can extrapolate, but that's dishonest.
Also, I sound like an asshole.
Okay, with my headphones, I can make out enough for nice quotes.
The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months.
Sad as Jobs' death is, I keep coming back to this. My dad and my grandmother both died of this kind of pancreatic cancer, the evil fucking killer kind. When I heard Jobs had the other kind, I was dumbfounded. All those extra years of life, what a blessing. And he made good use of those years, ya know?
And Suzi, that is just... grrrr!
Tom Quinn is a terrible spy. Very unsuited to being a spy.
I'm also not totally in love with TJ's shelf stable pilaf.

Oh, that made me laugh out loud. Because it's true, and I haven't thought about Tom Quinn in years. Which reminds me that I stopped watching that show about half way through season 5, and now it's in season 10, and I just don't know if I can handle it. It constantly ripped out my heart, stomped on it, shoved it back in, and then... again.
NPR did a nice piece on Jobs.
First woodstove fire of the season, yay! I brought all the plants in. Snow in the mountains expected, and it may get down to 6500 feet ( we're at 6010).
