Zoe: Yeah? Thought you'd get land crazy that long in port. Wash: Probably, but I've been sane a long while now, and change is good.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Hippo Birdies, Kate!

The DST change used to be on the 30th -- just in time for screwing up Halloween night. They haven't moved it nearly late enough -- I'd rather have evening light than morning. Feh.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Happy Birthday Kate!

I have to have a "come to Jesus" with my student worker. We bent over backwards to make sure she could have 20 hours (10 in my area and 10 in another area in the school). In the past month, she has only completed 3 of her shifts without calling in, not showing up, lateness or leaving early. I am normally not a stickler for punctuality, but coupled with the just not coming, it is a killer. She has only worked 12 hours and 35 minutes this month and she was scheduled for 44.

What gets me is that she a) begged me to take her on because she needed a guaranteed 20 hours per week and b) told me what hours she wanted to work. WTF???

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

The DST change used to be on the 30th -- just in time for screwing up Halloween night.

If by screwing up you mean adding an hour of bar time.

(ETA: and actually, it used to be earlier than that because it was very common for me to get that extra hour of sleep on my birthday weekend. Thanks for nothing, Congress.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Happy birthday, Kate! You should fly to New York and great Tom Scola as he arrives at work and blind him with your smile.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, everyone! It's been a great day so far -- we had our first appointment this morning with the midwife practice we'll be using, and we really liked the midwife we met with. And we got to hear the baby's heartbeat! She said it sounded great. And tonight we're having a few friends over for pie, so really, how much better can the day get??
