You know how guns don't kill people? Wearing hoodies doesn't kill people either.
What is wrong with people that you even have to say that?

This is the other reason I want to cry today. Reading people apparently sincerely saying "Well, if the homeless didn't dress like they were homeless, people would treat them better."
Oh, okay. You've solved the whole thing. Thought of a solution no one else was bright enough to think of before.
It really makes me feel sick.
Holy shit, ita !, that's some truly jawdropping un-self-awareness.
Organizer: Trayvon Martin was "read" as a thug because he was a young black man in a hoodie. We need to change this misperception.
Clueless Person: But, eek! The person in that picture *does* look like a thug in a hoodie!
Organizer: That person is *me*. That's the point, that not everyone wearing a hoodie is a thug.
Clueless Person: No, of course you're not personally a thug, but you must realize that when you wear a hoodie, you certainly do look like one. Don't you know that?
Organizer: ...
Just, holy shit.
Apropos of that discussion, this is possibly one of the most bitterly funny comments I've seen on the whole hideous tragedy (heavy, heavy emphasis on bitterly).
I have still never heard "Rolling in the Deep."
I heard it for the first time at the Grammys. And it's come up on my Pandora a couple times, and, yeah, it is a really good song! Haven't heard "Someone Like You," though. I think it's come up on Pandora once or twice, but I haven't really listened to it.
In other news, it's been six years of getting along with all my co-workers, but I want to punch our new medical director in the face ALL THE TIME (this is the one with no social skills at all). She makes my skin crawl. I have no idea how the fuck we hired her; none of us interviewed her, despite the fact that we all interview basically every single other person we hire. One of my co-workers says that medical directors are generally crazy, and the one we have as a consultant is an anomaly for being cool and understanding, but graaaah. You can't come in here and overturn policies we have repeatedly argued about and come to the same conclusion year after year.
People suck.
Congrats on Bob's all clear report Lisa.
I went for a screening mammogram today. That was very odd. They didn't ever try to play lip service to modesty--they told me to strip to the waist in the consulting room and then to come on over into the adjoining radiology room...no robe, nothing. I didn't know if there were going to be other techs in there or not. (There weren't.) It's a good thing I don't have nudity issues. Never mind the other person manipulating your boob and body into the proper position weirdness.
Bobby told me he had to find his hoodie because his high school was planning to all wear them.
We are discussing driving up to Sanford tomorrow evening for the rally planned. Friend is trying to find out details like where people are supposed to park/gather/etc. My boys are understandably upset and I think it will help to do something. We know the church where the gathering is planned, but don't know about the best way to gt there and out again.
I know DH and the other coaches and parents live with this fear all the time. It is unbearably wrong and painful that our children can't expect to be safe walking home.
Also, it' s been 5 years today since I took possession of my house. It's been mostly all good. I like my little house. At the time I imagined that I would stay here for 5 years then move closer to downtown. Now...I don't know. I am just out of walkability range of many things, but transit is super easy here. I would also have to take on more debt to buy closer to d-town, and I like having made a good dent in my mortgage.
At the same time, I feel tied to my house, and hey what if I want to have a mid-life crisis and move to France?
I went with a friend to the Keith Haring show at the Brooklyn Museum. Then we went to a bar where they happened to be playing the Cure, the Cramps, the English Beat, and the Clash. It was like we time travelled to the 1980s for the day!
Scola, you win at today!
I have no idea how the fuck we hired her
Oh hai, you've met my incompetent!boss. His fucking title is Executive Director of our department, and we had a conversation today that consisted of me asking him things like: "Has the cover [for outside big-$$ project] been approved yet?" and him answering "Well, yes and no."
Well, actually, I'm not going to send it to the printer until you can show me an e-mail where the person paying us big $$ to do this project has explicitly said "Yes, that cover is good."
(Incompetent!boss's explanation of "yes and no" was "Well, a mockup of the cover was created, but we haven't gotten approval of it from Money Guy."
Me: "So the short answer is NO, then."
Him: "Well, we have a mockup."
Me: "WHICH HASN'T BEEN APPROVED."
Him: "Well...no.")
Even better, he answered fully half my questions about specs that must be decided before we can proceed with production with "Well, I don't know what that is."
IT'S A COPYRIGHT STATEMENT OH MY GOD.
Oh Steph, your boss sounds like my boss. I heard through the grapevine that my incompetent boss interviewed for another job and didn't get it. So close to being free of him.
Scola, that sounds an awesome day.
