I look more rad than Lutheranism

Also, what would you do if you found a kitten with a hand-grenade?

Twitpic!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

How angry is the kitten?

I passed that question on to my sister. Sadly, we got back to Madison to find Mason has the flu, so he might not be up for answering the query.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Have online comment sections become 'a joke'?

In the early days of the Internet, there was hope that the unprecedented tool for global communication would lead to thoughtful sharing and discussion on its most popular sites.

A decade and a half later, the very idea is laughable, says Gawker Media founder Nick Denton.

...Don't read the comments?

brillig

I read the comments section of the Salt Lake Tribune--and post there!--because it gives me hope for the intelligence of Utah. The Trib is the "liberal" paper, and the prevalence of a more liberal view is what allows a smallish market like Salt Lake to support two daily newspapers. The other paper, the Deseret News, is owned by the LDS Church--or their business arm, in interests of being fair to the church's own declarations--and is known for a filtered, to put it kindly, worldview.

The DNews comments section is heavily moderated, and the Trib's is as well, though not nearly to the same degree. The pack of wolves on the Trib resent both the moderation and the recent change to allow only Likes on posts. It was nice to be able to Dislike some posts into oblivion, but there is value in seeing the vitriol, and the moderators will yank a post--or a poster--if they get truly awful.

Gee, this freaky warm weather just keeps on going. Today for our drive back it was sunny and 70 F out, which was weird as we were driving past frozen rivers and lakes and seeing snow in the ditch.

And we're supposed to get 73 in Chicago on Wednesday.

After belief in global warming declined for several years (due to much less media coverage), it's been on the rise recently due to all the weird weather in the last year or two.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Gawker is one of the few places (the network, not that site in particular) where I read the comments, and it seems that it's totally by mistake, not design, because the things Denton intends to do would kill the things I like about it. The IO9 editors are pretty outspoken in defending what most of the IO9 community (as opposed to posters) want out of the experience, but I don't know if their voice gets to be heard.

I just read some of the comments on the Yahoo articles, and JESUS, those people are rude, stupid, and poorly articulated. I have to say that most of the complaints I have about Gawker network posters are at a totally different level.

What fun pictures of Juliana's wedding day!

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

he engaged his co-workers in conversations about intelligent design and handed out DVDs on the idea while at work.

That's why he got fired. It didn't matter if it was intelligent design or Girl Scout cookies, he was harassing his co-workers.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

What fun pictures of Juliana's wedding day!

It was a totally fun day.

Even if my liver didn't think so.

Man, I love beauty bloggers. I saw a repetitive ad for something that I thought might be a cool idea, so I google it, find the blogs, and realise that despite the glam of the ads, the Cover Girl Blast Flipsticks are never going to be for me, because they're drying, strongly scented, and irritated some testers' lips. Next!

Not that I'd wear the colour in the ads--the googling was to find out the other colours in the range, primarily.

Fuck, I can't believe I need another Nook. And...how little I want one in colour. E-ink all the way, baby. I love that shit. I'm definitely five or so months out of warranty...

Is it a good idea, that if something goes wrong with your hardware during your warranty period, to get an extended warranty then, if they're still available? Like, even if it won't be available for whatever your fix is, it just makes it feel like you're dealing with something that is delicate, and might break again instead of an year?

Dunno. I don't think I've ever even gotten Apple Care, and that's supposed to be a shoe in.
