And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Here it is on CNN: [link]

(By the time I got to a TV to check this out it had been switched back to soaps - this was a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of news special.)

Of the 39,000 troops in Iraq, only about 150, a negligible force, will remain to assist in arms sales.

To assist in arms sales? I don't understand what that means. Not that it's not legit, I just don't know what it means, exactly.

Not the overarching point, I know!

OK, more words from a different article clarify [link]

As a result, the only U.S. military presence that will remain in Iraq after the end of the year will be the roughly 150 troops needed to protect the large U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad and its thousands of American diplomats and other personnel, as well as provide training related to new military sales and other tasks.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

huh.

...

wow.

Oh, wow.

A person posted on my FB feed something snarky about Obama. One of the responders commented, "One more year, that's all I'm sayin,".

Fine, whatever. The next comment:

"I can't believe he's lasted this long."

Um, what? It's a four year term. Are you saying you're surprised he's not been assassinated, impeached, or resigned himself? Really? You can't believe that? I hate people.

Also, as for the OP, "can't shut up" is your takeaway from today? Wow.

I seem to be cranky and dumbfounded by the world today.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

It sounds like he's using the Vietnam strategy: declare victory and leave. I've been yelling that suggestion at the news for several years. We can't unbreak Iraq.

It sounds to me like we're getting kicked out. Which amounts to the same thing.

How to Deliver a Baby Without Pain Meds If You're Not a Spiritual Person But Are Really Geeky

5. Pretend you are Muad'Dib, and if you take your hand out of the pain box, the Reverend Mother will stick a poisoned dagger in your neck.

21. Grab husband's arm, whisper dramatically "Death is my gift."

22. Midwives look alarmed, have not watched a lot of Buffy.

8. Give up, ask for drugs.

Heh.

Or there's my shorter version, which is delay going to the hospital until this ep of Party Down you've been watching on Netflix is over and then by the time you get there and have filled out all the paperwork for an epidural it will be too late to actually get one.

[eta: Oh god don't read the comments x100000. The amount of bullshit pseudoscientific CRAP that women are told about childbirth is just unbelievable.]

Yeah, when the Iraqis refused to extend the legal coverage the troops have for anything they do, I figured we'd be outta there soon.
