The other day as I was pulling into work I heard the start of an ad/PSA with Amanda Peet, she was talking about her child(ren?) and making the decision about vaccines. At first I thought it was going to be anti-vax, but it was pro-vaccine and was mentioned polio in Africa and measles and whooping cough in Europe and America.
After Googling I think it was for Vaccinate Your Baby. [link]
Huh. My old krav school made it into the evening news with a "get the training the elite soldiers get" teaser. Problem with TiVo, is that I never get the news show that they tease. But I saw Junior and Mike. Good on them.
Oh noes, Jessica! I'm hoping its the random rash reax and not German measles. Urgh.
Note: am listening to Mr. Blue Sky right now.
I want to say Amanda Peet's brother in law is a pediatrician, which is how she got into vaccine activism? Or her husband, maybe.
Buffistas provide mindless activity on a day blighted by a new cold. Dabbit. The polish box is here! There was one wee leak, contained by the bubble wrap sleeve and zip bag. That bottle has been cleaned up, bottle neck, cap interior, and all. Almost all the polish is still in the bottle and still in good shape, so back in the box it goes. Remember to tighten down those caps before the tape goes on the box.
I am at present wearing four colors as bases and three as glazes--the most polish I've had on my nails for about six months. I've culled my own bins and added the culls to the box, and will be testing the rest of my choices in daylight tomorrow. A welcome undemanding pleasure between committments, so thank you, Buffistas!
Can somebody point me to the list, so I know who to send it out to on Monday?
Hey, I just wanted to say a quick thank you to my Buffistas who got me through this night a year ago, with special thanks to Cass, who texted me updates from the Japanese streaming news all night when my internet data limits gave out.
19,000 died and there are still 344,000 in temporary housing. [link]
Cass,
I'm with you. I think people have forgotten how fucking terrible these diseases were in the first damn place. When polio comes back, then (and perhaps only then) will people finally get a fucking clue.
I have begun yelling at my tv on a daily basis. I think I'm going to need to take a mental health break from politics for a few weeks or I will not make it to the Fall conventions.
Liese,
I have been thinking about this terrible anniversary all day.
As bad as events at Fukushima Daiichi were, I feel like the focus on it kept the rest of the world from really understanding the size of human tragedy.
