Betty Crocker's GF chocolate and yellow cake mixes are actually quite good. I'm planning to make whoopie pies with the chocolate mix.
But I'm busy planning my pie for Pi Day (which is next week), which I think will be a crustless pumpkin pie, with pecan halves making the pi symbol on top.

Apparently the shop that is now a Haagen Dazs and (excellent) pastry shop, used to be a drugstore run by a Lithuanian who was recruited by the KGB and was a safe haven for Russian conspirators trying to kill him for Stalin. Trotsky was in Mexico City at the time, and they wanted to have an escape route post-assassination, and this drugstore in Santa Fe was it.
It has a hidden secret exit, which opens to a completely different street, and it's completely screened from view and opens up into a courtyard. So the KGB operatives could stroll in and out without ever being seen, or could go in one way and out the other.
It's pretty awesome. The guy at the counter said he'd show us the door, but it was busy when we went in, so we might need to go back.

I had such complex thoughts about all the bc hullabaloo that I swam the same lap 4 times. And then realized it and started counting again and complexity, poof! But I know exactly which 4 because those are the 4 sub-55s right when I usually hit my slowest times.
