Speaking of disease epidemics, Seanan McGuire has written and recorded a Schoolhouse Rock style song about the Black Death(and her take on what caused it). It's called "The Black Death".

Wow. That's some talented lyricism right there. (Since the song was written, genetic studies have indicated that the black death was indeed the bubonic plague, which is a bit of a shame given the effort put into that song.)
