I was talking to Mom and told her that and she gasped and then said pretty much what P-C said.

I also learned that my brother didn't sell the house and can't sell the house and it's going to go into foreclosure. The house was always in my ex sister in laws name, but he got power of attorney to sell it.

She died 5 days before the house was to close and the power of attorney didn't extend past death.

Also she had no will or life insurance so there's a whole mess of probate.

The foreclosure won't hurt my brother because his name wasn't on it, but he was going to get a little money from the sale and now he's not.

Plus the buyers are out of a house, the real estate agent is out money, and a repairman is out money because payment was tied to the closing.
