"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

6-8 weeks for ligament healing, including a bad sprain.

do you still have swelling? discoloration?

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Ligaments do take a long time. RICE and anti-inflammatories and look for ankle strengthening exercises on the web. Also, IANAD.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

What David said. The prescription is usually an ankle brace and lots of NSAIDs. However, the fact that you can't point your foot (as opposed to being able to point it but it's painful) is worrisome.

Also, Pix, I know my brother's done lots of ankle rehab (tore a ligament stepping off a curb while playing hackey sack, no kidding). I can email him if you like. Also also, do you sprain your ankles a lot? I finally realized through bellydance that I did because I place my weight on the outside of my feet. Strengthening your inner thighs can help with that.

Thrive to spite them

So I got some glass cleaning clothes, RainX, and some silcone stuff for the gaskets of the doors (I couldn't find the Wd-40 and the auto people recommended this).

Only I can't apply the Rainx because it's too cold. So i'm just going to go with the wiping off with towels, crack the rear windows method. And I'm going to work tomorrow, I'll just take Rte 7, which takes longer but I can go slow.

The status is NOT quo.

Thanks all. No swelling or discoloration and I'm ashamed to admit that I stopped using a brace a week or so ago because it really doesn't hurt unless I twist it. Likewise with anti-inflamatories. I suppose I could point it if I could get past the pain, but past a certain point it hurts too much to comtemplate.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'd just keep the brace on because it's super easy to re-aggravate that injury because it's already weaker. It takes a much smaller tweak to set you back.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'd agree with keeping the brace on. Ankles retwist really easily if they've recently been twisted, and each time that happens, it damages the tissue again.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

What they said. Keep the brace on for 2 more weeks.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Pix, I don't know what kind of brace you're wearing, but this is the brace I wore for a couple months after a horrible sprain: [link] I recommend it very, very highly. It's fantastic support, and the many different ways it can be adjusted is excellent.

Basically, I sprained my ankle horribly enough that the doctor told me that breaking it would have been "better" in that a break would heal faster than my sprain. The ASO brace had me walking around normally (while wearing it) within a day or two. It isn't the prettiest thing around, but it is pure gold in terms of supportiveness.

t edit None of that was to say you *should* switch braces, but if you aren't satisfied with how supportive yours is, I thought I'd throw the link out there.
