[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Cash, so much ~ma for your sister. I hope that the C-section goes smoothly and that the baby is fine. 2 lbs isn't as scary as it used to be.
I love the house, but the city doesn't seem to be ideal. So, now I'm conflicted.
When we bought, we were told to go for the worst house in the best neighborhood we could afford. Especially if what makes the house bad is cosmetic stuff like wall color or carpeting. You can improve the house, but you can't change the neighborhood and the people around you can make or break your home life (just ask sarameg!).

The neighborhood actually seemed quite nice, but some of the town crime statistics were alarming when we looked them up. It was hardly the best house in the neighborhood, but it wasn't the worst either. We don't have the skills or the extra money to do major renovations on a house. We obviously will paint and decorate to make it ours, but it really needs to be at a level that we can live with for the immediate future.

That's like house arranged marriage!
Yeah--the main thing is to make sure the house has good bones. I have had friends turn down houses because the colors were depressing, but painting is the easiest thing in the world and it makes a huge difference!
The downside of having antique/vintage furniture is realizing how heavy it is when you want to paint or put down new carpet. I'd have new carpet and repainted rooms already but the thought of moving all my furniture out of the workmen's way and then back again is daunting.
We bought the worst house in the best neighborhood, and aside from still having some qualms about buying at all, we're happy with our decision.
It's been a lot of work, and a lot of contractors, but the added bonus is that all our neighbors love us because we took the shambling mound of an eyesore house and made it look decent, and thus improved their property values.
Welcome to the world Reece! Cashmere, congratulations on your new nephew, and continued ~ma headed toward mother and baby.
