Liese:
Toss opened mascara or liquid eyeliner more than six months old, is general rule. I cheat, though, unless it starts to smell funny or dry out.
Any opened lipsticks or lip glosses, should go if they're more than a couple of year old, unless they smell funny, or have started to look waxy, separating and/or weird.
Powders — pressed or loose — stay good for about two years. So eye shadows, mineral makeup, etc. have a pretty long shelf life.
Makeup that's been sitting out in a sunny spot breaks down faster, so if you've got stuff that's been exposed to light or lots of hot days, and it's more than a few months old, you might consider getting rid of it.
Liquid foundation lasts anywhere from one to two years depending on the formulation.
ION -- Ooh, I have A TON of forks! Great idea re: the inside plants!!
So my ten year old lipsticks should be tossed? Good to know.
Yeah, I think that means every single thing I have except the Smashbox should be tossed.
Toddson, is Angel Red blood coloured? The web is really not being helpful.
Fresh lipstick for everyone!
Angel Red is, um, red. I don't think it's the bright, bright red - just a thought that if you were in a store you might give it a test.
Yeah, just about everything I own should be tossed. Ah well.
From way back:
Yoga classes go too fast, and frustrate me. Also, I breathe really slowly and deeply during them, and I enjoy it, and feel very peaceful, and always feel out of sych with the instructor/other students.
I feel this way in my prenatal yoga classes. It's not that the exercises themselves are necessarily too fast, but the instructors always want us to breathe in sync with our movements, and I find myself wanting to breathe much slower, like two or three times slower. If I try to breathe as fast as they want us to, I get lightheaded and feel like I'm hyperventilating, which seems like the opposite of the effect that we're striving for.
Kate, I have that same problem with yoga. Breathing in time with my movements makes me lightheaded and feel like I can't get enough air.
But I wanted to tell you that I just downloaded this very cool prenatal yoga app for my iPhone. I think it's called Pregnancy - Healthy Yoga or something like that. Anyway, I really like it, although if you have the time for a real class, that might be more fun.
I got a pinup red yesterday. I'm in the market for a blood red now. It doesn't look like Sephora has it. On the Nordstrom's site it doesn't look very red.

That sounds great! Though I lack an iPhone. But a few friends have recommended a prenatal yoga video from Netflix streaming, which I should start doing. I'm taking two classes per week right now, and it really feels like good exercise and a great way to spend a little time being active and mindful. Trying to get in at least a short walk most days, too, but that requires more self-motivation, which I sometimes lack.
When are you due, btw? I can't remember (if I ever knew).
I have lipsticks that I've stashed for years. So long as they are in vaguely reasonable storage temperature, I've had no problem. If they feel or smell off, I'd ditch them but I use things until they run out or break otherwise
