Ya know, there are days when I love my job dearly, and days when it's all I can do to not hate humanity in it's entirety. So glad for ya'll (and kitten cams) to get me through the day. If they ever tried to take away our internet we'd all revolt. Today I’ve been dealing with some of those most frustratingly ignorant people in my fair city.
Example the first: "I think I got a fake check, we were selling GS cookies and I got this check from a lady who looked totally American but the name on the check was super foreign." (Reassured her that sometimes people have names that don’t match their apparent ethnicity due to marriage, etc, and a bank should be able to verify whether the check is valid.)
And worse: Male who called to complain that a “black female” stared at him “intensively” at the WalMart. Went back and forth with him for a rather long time before the conversation resolved into me having to actually say, out loud, all of the following statements: “Looking at you is not a crime….being black is not a crime…being a black woman is not a crime…being a black woman in public is not a crime…looking at someone while being a black woman is not a crime…being black does not make someone an ‘assailant’…please stop referring to all black people as ‘assailants’…I really can’t continue talking to you, there are other people needing to report actual crimes.”
I kinda wish I could report *him* to the police, except that at first he sounded so scared and timid I actually thought maybe there had been some kind of assault and he was just afraid to talk about it openly.
Wow, universe, you sure can suck.
I've got an appt to see a place Tuesday morning. Early reports from people who know make it sound like this is a quiet well-managed place if not particularly pretty.
Welcome home Maria! Now get well soon.
Game night at PixDesigns place. Woot! Fun times!!
For Buffista teachers, I'm sharing the dream I just woke up from before it fades. Then I'm going back to sleep. A teacher uses her mighty broadsword "ninnyhammer" to smite budget cutters, bureaucrats, plus over-entitled parents and students.
Quick resolution ~ma to the housing crisis, sumi!
virtual smacks to erin's callers
Ha! Go back to sleep Typo and bring it on.
I awoke this morning to discover 5 teenage boys sleeping in various spots about the house. Only one of which is mine. This apparently happened after I went to sleep. DH said not to expect them moving anytime soon because they were off to Taco Bell at 4am.
I'm actually enjoying Bobby's senior year in HS. He is planning to go to state college here in Fort Lauderdale after he graduates. Partly because he figures he can save money living at home and partly because he just likes living here.
Went back and forth with him for a rather long time before the conversation resolved into me having to actually say, out loud, all of the following statements:
Mega, mega UGGH. But it sounds like you handled it as well as you could have.
Maria, bella, ma cherie... I'm sorry you got sick but so glad you had a wonderful trip. Can't wait to hear more.

Hee, that's kind of awesome.

Dude, that's a terrific dream.
I slept so hard last night. Ten hours! Still tired, but boy did I need that. Also, I have a roommate! Still need one more, but my friend L who is just moving back from FL is going to take the master suite. She has a dog, too, so animal dynamics will be interesting for a while, but I'm excited about Frankie having a playmate.
