My smoke detector is chirping. Not constantly, just once a minute or so, and it's driving me nuts. The ceiling is way too high for me to reach it, even with a step stool. It will only stop chirping when it gets a new battery or the low battery warning finally runs out of power. Most people have gone mad before the latter happens. I think you'll have to call her unless you can enlist a neighbor or a very tall student.

This time of year is murder for gifts. Both my parents' birthdays are in December, then Christmas, then our anniversary, then my birthday, and two days after than Valentines. We don't tend to exchange gifts for our anniversary or Valentines as a result.

Smonster, I'm sorry about the money thing. I have a lot of November and January birthdays in my life too. Amazon just sent me a reminder for my older nephew's birthday. I used up all my ideas for him for Christmas. No idea what to do for his birthday.
