In talking about vacation and holiday time, I checked my vacation bank and I actually have 117 hours. How did that happen. I know I haven't had a balance over 40 hours in years. Good problem to have, I know. Not complaining, just surprised.
It has to be a result of working from home. I haven't taken a sick day in a long time. If I need to do something that would have meant I took time off mid-week, I usually just flex my hours and get my work in elsewhere in the week.
Suzi - I had more than 50 days last time I checked.
That's why I've taken the past couple of weeks off.
Wow, I take time off pretty much as soon as I accumulate it!
We get 2 whole weeks for Christmas, which is nice. We only have 2 weeks vacation, so that works out pretty well.
My boss paid us for T-giving and I got a $100 bonus for Christmas.
eta let me be clear, both those things were super nice and unexpected.
I really, really, REALLY miss PTO.
50 days!!! Dang, sumi! I'm almost up to 3 weeks and that seems huge. I wish I could take that in one big chunk. I wouldn't know what to do with myself.
I get no time off for Xmas -- taking my laptop with me.
When I worked for the City there were people who'd been there forever and had tons of leave time. And they'd get 2-4 weeks vacation (depending on how long they'd been there) they'd have to take because they were over the limit for the roll over vacation.
Then there were others who took their days as fast as they earned them and never had anything on the books.
We can only roll over 40 hours of PTO to the next year and we're not allowed to take more than one week off at a time, so I space out vacations. The end of the year is always full of people burning off their extra PTO.
My boss literally took 2 months vacation at the end of the year this year. Because she's been there almost 30 years, she has more vacation time than God. But taking 2 months off, straight, has FUCKED us on actual work. Without her to edit, we have fallen so far behind it's not even funny. And incompetent!boss just scratches his head and wonders how we fell behind and keeps telling us we "need to find ways to catch up." Well, maybe if people didn't take TWO MONTHS OFF we wouldn't fall behind!
We max out at 431 hours. That is two years accumulation at the max rate which you hit after 10 years with the company. After tomorrow, I'm trying to work as little as possible through to January 2nd.
