Ginger, that's an excellent batch of health news. You're not just in my thoughts--my mother asks about you too. I can't wait to tell her this.
Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
If you are buying wine for someone whose taste you don't know well (other than the fact that they do like whiskey, wine and beer) what you buy for them at Trader Joe's?
The wine guy at TJ's could help you. But frankly, if this person liked whiskey, I'd probably buy him a bottle of Scotch since TJ's has excellent prices on very good Scotch.
If you know they like red, a merlot is usually safe.

Merlot.
How can I be so worn down by what was ostensibly a day off? E-fucking-gad, I'm starting to hate Christmas.
It's no longer fashionable to hate on Merlot, so if you like it, I say enjoy. I'm such a plebeian when it comes to reds anyway, I like a good meritage over most varietals.

I feel like people tend to be a lot more particular about scotch than wine though.
Who has two thumbs and created a big ole hot mess of angst and confrontation with her mother in law two weeks before Christmas over a fucking veggie tray?
THIS GIRL!!!
Oh no, Aims. Is it smooth-over-able before Christmas?
Hah, whereas I like most any white except Chardonnay.
{{{Aims}}} Tis the season for family drama.

I drink both red and white wine, but I don't like merlot and hate chardonnay. Maybe go for something sparkling like a prosecco?

I didn't say it was awesome; I said it was a safe bet for someone whose wine tastes he doesn't know. In terms of playing the wine odds, merlot is a safe bet.
Though not with sj. (Or with me, honestly. But I wasn't answering based on what I like. I've had maybe 2 merlots ever that I liked.)
Or maybe a cabernet sauvignon for a red.
